travel tips

traveling is stressful, no matter what. even when you’re heading to a relaxing weekend at the spa, between packing, finding the clean rest stops, and where to eat without getting over priced costco canned cheese nachos is annoying. whether you’re driving or flying, here are some handy little tips to make your travels simple.

  1. pack ahead of time

    • LAY EVERYTHING OUT LIKE ONE OF THOSE PRETTY PINTEREST PHOTOS BEFORE YOU START STUFFING THINGS AWAY, THAT WAY YOU FOR SURE HAVE ENOUGH UNDERWEAR, ONLY ONE TOOTHBRUSH, AND CAN SEE YOUR MIX’N’MATCH AND SWAPABLE OPTIONS FOR CLOTHING/GEAR/ETC.

      1. Check list

        1. you cAN BE AS SIMPLE AS A LIST TO REMIND YOU OF THE ESSENTIALS, OR AS DETAILED AS AN ITEMIZED SPREADSHEET. BUT WRITING THINGS OUT IS A NICE PENSIVE TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT! LIKE HEADPHONES.

      2. roll your clothes

        1. MARIE-KONDO HAS A BRILLIANT WAY TO FOLD FOR WRINKLE-FREE ITEMS, BUT IF YOU’RE GOING ON A TRAIL FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME, USE YOUR SOCKS AS ROLLER TUBES. YOU’LL SAVE SPACE, EVENLY DISTRIBUTE WEIGHT, AND HAVE YOUR OUTFITS ALREADY LAID OUT!

      3. spacers & containers

        1. THIS ONE IS ACTUALLY REALLY HANDY WHEN STAYING IN HOSTELS, OR WHEN YOU START SORTING THE LAUNDRY. PERSONALLY, I USE QUILTED “MAKE-UP & ACCESSORY” BAGS I’VE LABELED WITH FABRIC MARKER SO I DON’T OVER-PACK.

ITS ALSO DISCREET FOR MY PRIVATE ATTIRE AND HARDER FOR THIEVES TO FIND WHERE MY EXPENSIVE GOODS ARE.

  2. planning MINOR DETAILS AHEAD

    • budgeting

      • I AM A FIRM BELIEVER IN THE VALUE OF A DOLLAR AND HOW FAR IT WILL GO. HOWEVER, occasionally incidents LIKE ACCIDENTS OR THEFT HAPPEN.

YOUR SHOES ARE A GREAT ATM. KEEP A FLAT BILL BENEATH YOUR INSOLE THAT ISN’T IN YOUR expenditureS, JUST IN CASE!

SPREAD OUT YOUR MONEY, NOT JUST OVER TIME, BUT THROUGHOUT YOUR SUITCASE! DON’T KEEP IT ALL IN THAT ONE WALLET YOU LEFT IN THE BIKE-TAXI!

      • SET ASIDE YOUR ACTUAL TRAVEL MONEY FROM YOUR GROCERIES AND YOUR FUN MONEY. USING APPS LIKE SIMPLE HELP TO MANAGE WHERE THE SPENDING IS COMING FROM, WITHOUT CREATING separate ACCOUNTS.

USE APPS THAT GIVE YOU CASH BACK! LIKE KEEPING GROCERY receipts, OR SHOPPING AT SPECIFIC CHAINS!

    • print out important documents

      • KEEP COPIES OF THE DIGITAL ERA. ITS EASY TO JUST SCAN YOUR LPN AND GO, BUT KEEP A PHYSICAL PRINT JUST IN CASE YOUR DATA IS iNACCESSIBLE!

    • write down your information

      • KNOWING YOUR CONFIRMATION NUMBERS, FLIGHT TIMES, AND ADDRESSES IS SO HANDY WHEN YOUR ATTENDANT IS HAVING ISSUES LOOKING YOU UP.

  3. GEOTAgging

    • APPROPRIATE USE

      • TAGGING CLEAN REST STOPS IN YOUR MAPS

      • MARKING HIDDEN MOTELS OFF THE HIGHWAY

      • PINNING CHEAP PUBLIC TRANSPORT

    • INNAPROPRO

      • TAGGING SMALL, UNKNOWN DESTINATIONS.

        • WHEN VISITOR RATES INCREASE; PARKING accommodation, TRAIL MARKERS, RELIEF FACILITIES DO TOO…AT THE EXPENSE OF DEMOLISHING THE ONCE BEAUTIFUL HIDDEN GEM.

      • TAGGING PERSONAL HOMES/SHELTERS'

        • JUST BECAUSE SOMEONE OFFERED YOU KINDNESS, OR THE SHELTER IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC, CONSIDER THE SAFETY OF THOSE WHO RESIDE THERE.

THERE ARE SO MANY OTHER WAYS TO TRAVEL LIGHT AND IN STYLE, BUT SOMETHING AS SIMPLE AS DOWNLOADING YOUR MUSIC FOR WHEN YOU CAN’T CONNECT TO WIFI CAN MAKE, OR BREAK, THAT TWO HOUR LAYOVER WHEN THERE ARE NEWLY WEDS WHO ARE WAY TOO EXCITED FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIVES WAITING NEXT TO YOU.
