closet capsule

As promised, this entry is a How-To with Closet Capsuling, which is a MUST if you're living the vanlife, or if you're like me and the van breaks down and you take up residency in your friends basement.

What exactly is a Closet Capsule, you may ask? It's simple, really. It's a format for the practice of keeping a small number of useful clothes in your closet to mix it up each season. Minimalist lifestyles are all about multipurpose, particularly in apparel, the mix-n-match mentality. This is something you can do with virtually everything, clothing, kitchenware, toiletries and household supplies. I hope these tips help you in your quest to live with less!

Useful Clothing

Suitable for the season                             Fit Now                            Appropriate for Lifestyle

  • Step one

    • Pick a number

      • Limit your wardrobe to that number. {ie, 50}

      • include tops, bottoms, shoes, dresses, outerwear

      • exclude underwear, pajamas, accessories, workout clothes, cocktail attire

    • store and/or donate the rest

      • if it's useful and loved, but out of season, store it. you can use it again when it's time to remix. if it is not a valued item, donate it!

    • remix every three months

      • pull clothes from storage or buy a few new pieces to freshen up your wardrobe for the season.

      • stick to your number! for every new piece in, rotate a piece out.

    • shop less

  • step two
